Aliens are attacking!
I was in 5th grade on 9/11/01 in Alabama. I remember how normal that day was up until about lunch time when the buzz around all of us kids were that aliens were attacking us! In that moment, I had completely believed it, ALIENS! Looking back now, I realize how young and impressionable I was, but none of the adults were saying anything to us. Once I got home, my mother, furious with the school that they didn't tell us anything, explained what happened. I never really understood, and slowly with time, and the anniversaries caught on, but being so young and "so far away" from NYC, it wasn't much to me. Now, I've visited the site 4 times, I study it, look up stories, and really feel for those lives that were effected that day.
Those who die innocent deaths never really die. They are everywhere; we just don't see them in quite the same way. And the culmination of what they were and what their death meant is as prevalent and tangible as the warmth in your soul and the sorrow in your heart.
