My Sophomore Year

I was in high school...10th grade. It was 3rd period - chorus class. My boyfriend at the time was in his acting class next door. He also was part of the chorus, just in a different period. Part way through class, he rushes in the room & climbed up to the room TV and turned it on. The first plane had just hit while his acting class was watching a show and he immediately came to our room. He came and sat next to me while the whole class watched in varying states of distress as the 2nd plane hit. Then as the towers fell, all the students with cell phones starting calling parents. The teacher gave access to the room phone for those without cells. Our school was in a town with a very large military base, so many people were very concerned another attack nearby. Several students, including myself, had parents rush to the school to take students home. The rest of the day was a chaotic mess of phone calls and tears while watching the news.
A million thoughts raced through my head. And then I witnessed the most horrific thing I've ever witnessed in my 36 years of life. A TV had been set up in the break room, and we all watched in horror as first one, then both Towers fell. I can't describe the sadness, the feeling was too intense to justify in words.
