I reported for work in the Neonatal ICU at Texas Children’s before 8 AM Central time. passing the conference room, I saw CNN on the television with one of the trade towers burning, and sat down with the crowd already in the room. We saw the 2nd plane hit, and sat motionless for hours. We had all these sick patients to round on, and nobody could move.We just sat there in disbelief. The silence was too much.
That day, I was covering Labor and Delivery for the Neonatal service.
I attended several deliveries. One Dad was crying: Not tears of joy, but tears of sadness because his son was born on such a horrible day. “How would you like to have 9-11-01 as your birthday?”, he said.
I have to say, I agreed with him.
