I was the Executive Officer of USS Constellation (CV 64). We were two days out of Hawaii enroute to our homeport of San Diego at the end of a six month deployment to the Persian Gulf on the aircraft carrier. We had over 900 friends and family members of the crew (called Tigers) on board for the six day trip home. We got the reports and watched it unfold on satellite TV starting about 5 am. Interestingly, Disney made a movie titled “Tiger Cruise” about USS Constellation on 9/11 and our trip home, the main character of the movie is the ship’s XO—-me.
