At the time I was 21 years old and still living at home. I had returned from working 3rd shift at my hotel job and was casually surfing the internet. I had lost track of time on there. My father stood at the bottom of the stairs screaming, “How long have you been on there?! We’re in the middle of WWIII !!” I ran down to the living room and upon one look at the tv screen, my heart sank. The smoke, the people jumping, NY’ers sobbing. I remember newscasters saying beware of suspicious semi trucks during this dangerous time – we may be attacked on land, too. “Oh great” I thought, “I work AT a truck stop.” It was a scary night when I had to return @ 11:00 pm on the 11th. We also dealt with a lot of stranded motorists who couldn’t get a flight in/out. Get this – the hotel owners jacked up all the rates for weeks. Nice guys, huh? Way to help out your fellow citizens!!
