While i lived in Washington DC, i was in ATL for the funeral of my great aunt. One cousin in particular there from NYC. Tuesday morning we had just finished eating breakfast and were getting ready to check out of the hotel. We had the TV on but no one was really paying attention to it – everyone was ready to get back to their respective cities, ready to get back to reality. But none of us knew at that moment that reality had shifted all over the world. The TV didn’t catch anyone’s attention until we saw the “LIVE” banner and watched the second plane crash into the south tower. The room went silent. All we could do was watch. And wait.
If that wasn’t scary enough the next banner announced that the Pentagon was under attack. The Pentagon. In Arlington County, Virginia. Less than an hour away from my home. Woah. We now realize that not only will my NYC cousin not be able to fly home today ………. We can’t fly home today. Even at 4 years old i knew that we were under attack.
I was not aware however, that we were at war.
