I can barely remember it now but there are still some things I recall. I was only in second grade but I can remember them filing us all into a hallway where we sat and teachers crowded around the principals office, looking up at the TV mounted on her wall. I saw the smoke from the towers on the screen as we walked past her office. The door was open. I think they were too shocked close it. The kids were whispering, but no one else could seem to find their voice to break the silence. What could they have said that would’ve made anything better? Teachers were gathered around the desk, just staring. It was only a moment I glimpsed the scene —no more than five seconds: if even that. They’re five seconds I will never forget.
