I had worked till midnight the night before and was awakened by a phone call from my boss. He said turn on the TV and get dressed. I did and then woke my wife. We watch and got dressed in the uniforms that we wear everyday. Our son called from California and asked what was going on. I told him what we were going to work and he asked that we don’t go. My wife shook her head and I asked him “What do you think we do?”. He said “Your cop’s. Be careful.” From where I was stationed I could see the towers burn. All I could think about was who was there. Who was hurt and what was going to happen next. Where was my threat? Was my wife safe? How could I help? And what a beautiful, clear day it was that God had given us in contrast to the horror we were watching.
When people ask me if I saw the special on 911 I just shake my head and say “No, I watched it when happened. And I never want to see it again.”
Rest well my brothers. Your tour is over and we will show you 10-7.
