On September 11, 2001, I lived in Camden, NC and worked in Elizabeth City, NC at a pediatric office. My spouse at the time was a commercial driver and was away from home. My son was in elementary school and my daughter was not quite 3 was at day care. All was right in my world, and then….I was at work, at my desk when the phone rang, it was Ms. Donna, a Co worker who hadn’t come in yet. She was crying, and she told me what happened and I got up and ran to my supervisors office saying turn on the radio. We’ve been attacked. Ohe my God. I can’t even tell you how many times I said or heard oh my God.
All day, that was all I could think, every time a patient came in and said had we heard. Oh my God. I’ve never felt so vulnerable and I’ve never felt completely safe since.
