i was in the navy when 9/11 went down my ship the USS KEARSARGE was about 500 miles off the coast of spain when the event happened and our captian shut down email and internet and said on the load speaker that we were on stand by and so we pulled into spain to do our washdown of equipment and vehicles we were in rota spain for nearly 4 days doing this and all the while on stand by ready to go finally we pulled out headed home pulled into norfolk va 10 later and was in port for a week then we pulled out and went north to nj and offloaded our weapons
still on standby to go i stood pier watch and noticed that what went down was true the whole skyline of nyc had changed and we got everything unloaded all the while on standby to go but we never did i had heard the uss batan or wasp went in our place i and my fellow shipmates of the uss kearsarge never went to the troubled area to assist i only prayed for the ones who did go were safe.
