I was on active duty in the US Navy on shore duty in the BEQ (Batchelor Enlisted Quarters) of NAVal STAtion Everett, WA and coming on duty in the morning. One of the civilian housekeeping staff said something about an attack on NYC and pointed to the TV in the BEQ lounge. The image on the screen showed one World Trade Center tower on fire. As I watched I saw something that seemed like something out of a Hollywood disaster flic. As the talking heads in the foreground were covering how likely the events were an accident another jetliner came into the screen form the left and in real time slammed into the other World Trade Center tower in a giant ball of flame. I remember looking down at my watch and thinking that someone had a bad sense of humor to be doing this on 09/11. As myself, my shipmates, and the civilian housekeepers watched, rumeros form the newscast were flying about how many planes were involved the emerging story of the attack on the Pentagon. By this time the CPO (chief Petty Officer) came out and got everyone back to work, as we would hear about anything official. Later on that day the water barriers were emplaced and armed marines on guard duty at the base entrance.
