On September 11th it was a normal day at work here. We were all sitting at our desks when my Vice President came in. He has CNN as his internet home page, and he came into our office and said “Hey guys! Look at this. A plane hit the Trade Center.” Being the horrible but sarcastic people we are, we actually started to joke: Did the pilot drop his cigarette? Who was throwing peanuts? Terrible, I know…After we found out what really happened, we all felt AWFUL, HORRIBLE, and DISGUSTED with ourselves.
Anyway so we’re all stuck at work. Luckily one of our managers has a big TV in his office so we were able to watch all the events unfold throughout the day. Unfortunately my employer wouldn’t let anyone leave. All any of us wanted to do was go home and be with our families, but they wouldn’t let us go. All we did was huddle in one person’s office and watch TV. It was eerily quiet all day…Our phones never rang.
At one point we were outside smoking, and we looked up and there was a plane flying realy, really, really low over our building and we all started to freak out. Later we found out the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania flew right through Cleveland’s airspace before turning around and going back. That was freaky. And scary.
Ever since September 11th I always look at planes in the air, and try to judge if they’re flying too low…Which is sometimes pointless since we live near an airport, where planes have to fly low to land. I never noticed airplanes before that day.
It’s amazing to see how things have changed since that day.
