I still remember 9/11/01 vividly as though it were yesterday. It was my last year in college and I woke up early to go to my 8:00am class. I remember being tired and not wanting to go but I went anyway. It was one of the most beautiful days outside. My class ended around 9:20am and I was in a rush to get to my next class. I remember hearing people around me asking others if “they heard what happened.” At the time, I didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t until after my 2nd class was over and I was on my way to my 3rd class of the day that I heard people talking about the World Trade Center. I thought it was a bad rumor or that a pilot accidentally crashed into the tower. I went to my 3rd class and the professor had the television on and my stomach completely sank. I don’t think anything could have prepared me for what I had seen on television. Our classes were cancelled for the rest of the day and the mood on campus was extremely solemn for quite some time. It was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop which was extremely unusual. I went back to my apartment to be with my roommate and the two of us spent the rest of the day “glued” to the television watching the news. It was a day I will never forget although I wish we could have prevented such a terrible tragedy.
