On September 11, 2001 I was a few months shy of 5 years old. I remember that morning my mom being distraught about something she had seen on the TV. I saw smoke coming out of a really tall building but I didn’t know what that meant or the effect this would have. I ended up going to preschool and when we were all there, our teacher had us sit on the floor like she usually did. Then she asked us if any of us knew what had happened. One boy proudly raised his hand, stood up, and loudly declared that the twin towers had fallen down.
We were little. We didn’t understand. It wasn’t until several years later that we would fully understand the implications this event had on our country, our people, and the world.
