15 years ago. I was a senior in highschool. It was a morning just like any other morning at our vo-tech school in Pennsylvania. I was walking down the hall and my best friend was frantically running toward me, by the time she reached me, she could barely speak “A plane just crashed into the World Trade Center” she said. I replied “Was it on purpose?” As we were running back to lab to turn the tv on, I remembered my dad’s flight was scheduled to come in some time that morning. He was a corporate trainer for FedEx and was based out of Newark. He was away on business. We made it to lab in time to hear the news on tv of the second plane hitting. We were sent home immediately. My mom was then sent home from work. Finally hours later we heard from my dad. It took him days to get home, due to grounding of the planes. Had he not been away on that trip, he could have been at a Port Authority meeting in the one tower. I do remember the skies being so quiet..we live near an airport and we saw not one plane for days..except the F116s circling the area. My heart was broken as I watched those towers collapse, all I did was cry. My family who lives outside of DC, I was so scared for them too and they were scared, I remember begging them to come home to Pa. They did for a while so our family could be together. My dad and his coworkers had to drive home from Arkansas, it took forever it seemed. That day is burned in my mind and I was fortunate to not have lost anyone that day. My heart goes out to those that did. We will never forget.
